Two charities of choice have been designated to receive a portion of the 2017 race proceeds, and you and your teammates are invited to lend your support to one or both of them.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany serves more than 2,500 children every year. Primarily serving Albany’s South End, Arbor Hill, and West Hill neighborhoods, the organization offers a broad range of programs in five core areas: Character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness and recreation. Donations from the 2017 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will benefit the organization’s Healthy Habits and Positive Sprouts program, which teaches club members healthy eating habits as youth grow their own produce and use it to prepare healthy snacks and well-balanced meals. The program is aimed at reducing childhood obesity and offers lifelong lessons that youth will share with family and friends.
Since 1833, Vanderheyden has been serving youth, adults, and families who are dealing with developmental, emotional, academic, and behavioral issues. The organization provides a wide range of services, including residential treatment, respite services, education, and crisis intervention to more than 500 individuals and families each year. Donations from the 2017 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge will help create Sanctuary Trails, a natural retreat nestled among the 80 wooded acres of Vanderheyden’s Wynantskill property. The trails, which will also be available for the public, will provide a quiet place for users to take a meditative walk and enjoy numerous fitness activities, such as hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and more.

About the Charities of Choice
Annually, the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC) accepts applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that wish to be selected as a CDPHP® Workforce Team Challenge Charity of Choice. The selected charities of choice receive a donation from CDPHP and HMRRC, as well as direct contributions from race participants.
Selected charities are expected to participate in CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge planning meetings, day-of race activities, and post-event media opportunities. Past charities of choice include Double H Ranch, Capital District Community Gardens, Senior Services of Albany, Schoharie Recovery, Inc., and Albany Boys and Girls Club, among others.
If your organization meets the eligibility requirements, we hope to hear from you during the 2018 Charity of Choice application process. Applications will be available in early December.
